Our Calgary community has come together in the last few weeks as everything has unfolded at a rapid pace and it is amazing to see what our city is doing for each other during this time. We know that for most people, work has shifted for you. If you are now at home (some of you with kids to boot!), here are some tips and suggestions for the coming weeks as you adjust to a new normal!

Meal Plan

One of the biggest things that can cause stress in a family’s routine is not knowing what to make for meals! There are so many great online tools to help you meal plan, and one of our favourites is from Scratch to Basics. You can find their downloadable templates here. The best time to meal plan is the beginning of the week, so sit down on Sunday and check out what you have left in your pantry, which is great for getting creative and using what you have.

Create A Morning Routine

It is so easy to get yourself in a funk when you aren’t rushing out the door to work each morning. Set your alarm early, and take your time getting ready! Workout, shower and enjoy your hot coffee with no screen time. If you have kids, get up before they do so you have time to yourself. Set a time that you will start work each morning and schedule when you pour your second cup of coffee and when you’ll break for lunch. Creating this type of schedule is the best thing you can do for your mental and physical health!

Designate An Office Space

Having your own designated space to work is key – whether it is a table set up in your bedroom, a corner of the kitchen island or table, or downstairs in your TV room. That space should be yours only and dedicated as your work zone. This gives you the freedom to be productive the moment you sit down to do your work. We suggest a place that has natural light and some fresh air coming in! Add one of your favourite plants from Black Earth Floral, light a candle, and create a space you want to spend time in.

Take a Break

During this stressful time, it is so important that you take time for yourself! When your mind is feeling stressed out or overwhelmed, make a list of what needs to be done in order of priority and then step outside. Fresh air, even if it’s just a walk around the block, can do wonders for your mental space.
